It’s time for another update from the forums! Today I’m featuring a modder that may not be the first to build a Portal companion cube, but that doesn’t matter. I’m pretty confident in saying zAAm’s mod may be the best example of a cube that I’ve ever seen. His attention to detail is over the top. Not only on the outside, but on the inside. Follow along and I’m sure you’ll agree…

zAAm didn’t step into this project without a little prior proper planning. What you see here is a Solidworks representation of the cube before a single cut is made. All the hardware placements were planned out in advance. This allowed him to maximize the available space, and make the cube as compact as possible.

Project “Ioncito” by elGafas

Posted by: craigbru | Comments (0)

Today’s project comes from forum member elGafas. He set out to create a HTPC that would match his sofa, and came up with something very unique in the end.

His case is a complete scratch build made from aluminum and MDF. However, that alone isn’t enough to set this case apart. The material elGafas chose to cover the case is… imitation leather!

Here is a picture of the case frame.

Project Harbinger by ||H4VOK||

Posted by: craigbru | Comments (0)

In my second installment of Forum Highlights, I bring you Harbinger by forum member ||H4VOK||. His mod is based on the fantastic Falcon Northwest Fragbox 2 chassis. This chassis is very close in design to the SilverStone SG01 chassis I’ve used in the past, so I can vouch for it’s modding potential.

||H4VOK|| set out to create a SFF mod with the maximum allowable cooling potential for a case it size. He’s managed to find room for a pair of 120.2 radiators, and even garnered a Danger Den sponsorship in the progress. Although this mod is still in the early stages, the work done so far shows his commitment to execution, and I can’t wait to see how this progresses.

Here is a picture of the side radiator and some hardware in place.

Today marks the first of many ‘Forum Highlights’ features. I plan on regularly covering some of the cool mods that are being built and have worklogs posted in the Losias forums.

The rig I am featuring now is being built by modding rookie shomann, and as you’re about to see, he’s off to a very nice start. He shows us that with a great plan, proper research, and some obviously natural born modding skills, you can have some killer results.

Shomann’s goal for this mod, was to have maximum performance, in the smallest space possible. No stock case was going to cut it… Yes ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got a scratch build here. Who doesn’t love the look of freshly cut aluminum?

Check out a few pics of the mod in progress…
