Final assembly. Let’s light it up!
ByI kept telling myself I only needed one good night, and I could get my project done. Well ladies and gentlemen… I’ve just had one good night. So, without further hesitation, here is everything that brought me up to the finale.
I carefully marked out where I would have to cut my hole for the USB cable. I little time with the good ol’ Dremel got the hole right where I needed it.
Not many people are aware of it, but there is another USB header on the daughter card for the front USB and audio jacks. In order to make use of this internal header, I had to create my own USB cable. A combination of these two cables, is exactly what I needed.
Soldering underway.
Here is the finished cable with shrink wrap applied.
I decided to use the blue LED’s from an lighted case feet kit to give the Shuttle a little more blueness. I mounted two on the bottom front, and two on the front about half way up.
Here the front panel is mounted and it’s just a matter of routing the wires.
Assembled and ready to hook up!
Success! Everything works as it should, and the LCD fires right up.
Here is a shot in the dark. I must admit that it’s a little difficult to get a good picture. You can barely see the glow from the EL wire around the aluminum panels in the photo, but it looks brighter in person. If I manage to get a better shot, I will add it to the post. All in all, I am very happy with the way this whole thing has turned out.
